Imphal, September 25 2023:
The women wing of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has asked the Government to disqualify the 10 Kuki MLAs who demanded disintegration of Manipur and to refrain from disarming the village volunteers who have been standing on guard to protect Meetei villages.
Addressing the media at Lamphel today, coordinator of COCOMI's women wing Y Lairikleima said that it is the village volunteers who have been playing the central role in protecting Meetei villages from the onslaught of Kuki narco-terrorists and their associates.
Asking why the Government is still protecting the 10 Kuki MLAs who have been openly demanding disintegration of the State, she asked the Government to take actions against them (the Kuki MLAs) .
The violence in Manipur was pre-planned and whatever the Meeteis have been doing is to defend their villages, she said and added that they will never allow the Government to disarm the village volunteers.
If there are reports of armed people engaging in crimes by taking advantage of the situation in Manipur, the Government can arrest and take legal actions against them, she added.
She, on the other hand, appealed to the people of Manipur to stop asking for donations in the middle of roads in the name of aiding village volunteers.
