Imphal, September 25 2023:
While alleging that the government is trying to divert the fight to protect Meitei from the Kuki attackers and to save Manipur in a wrong way, Manipur International Youth Centre (MIYC) cited the arrest of Meitei village volunteers under Acts and laws related to fighting terrorism and suppressing the people as one such example.
In a release, MIYC co-con-venor T Parijat stressed the need to take a firm stand and fight against those elements working against Meetei from different fronts.
Moreover, individualisation of volunteers taking part in the movement should not be done, he added.
Observing that the state government is functioning under the military thumb of the central government, he reminded that Delhi leaders, who are considered as their leaders, turned a deaf ear to the MLAs and ministers in the state.
The powers conferred to state government by the Indian constitution such as federalism and control over internal security are all under the clutches of the central government today.
So, people should fight together punitive actions initiated against the village volunteers as they are not waging war against Indian state but simply focussed in repulsing attacks of Kukis who are killing innocent civilians and trying to disintegrate the land.
Parijat further stated that issue of narco-terrorism and illegal immigration from Myanmar should be dealt with effectively as it would be futile to speak of peace without any proper basis and possible solution.
Regarding the issues of cease work strike launched by employees for increasing their salary and ban/un-ban of an actress, he said that such issues amidst the crucial situation are uncalled for.
Every individual should focus on the conflict and give strength to the people.
The employees should also consider that protesting against the state and central governments in connection with the conflict is the main agenda.
The fight should not only be fought by lay men and Meira Paibis, he added.
