AMGSU celebrates, appeals for peace

All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union (AMGSU) celebrated its 56th Foundation Day at Kanglatongbi community hall on Monday.
The celebration function was attended by Kanglatongbi Gram Panchayat caretaker pradhan Meena Bista as chief guest and AMGSU president LB Adhikari as functional president, while The Roses English School principal Mani Kumar Limbu and The Froebel English School principal Gopal Limbu were present as guests of honour along with Dr Ishor Kharel and Dr Suderson Chhetry as special guests.
It also the presence of functionaries of AMGSU units, Gorkha CSOs, clubs, women society and AMGSU Advisory Board members.
In a release, AMGSU conveyed that the function started with observance of one minute's silence for all the departed members of AMGSU and people killed in the present ethnic clash.
HSLC Examination, 2023 Commerce and MIL Nepali subjects state topper Ar-tika Pandey of The Froebel English School; Elementary Hindi (EHin) topper Anuradha Pakurel of The Roses English High School; Sanskrit topper Sagar Subedi of Sanatan Sanskrit Vidyalaya, Charhajare; HSE-2023, Nepali subject state topper Chanda Poudyal of Elite Higher Secondary School, Kangpokpi; Mathematics topper Anand Paneru of Comet School, Imphal; and Rubaru Mr India Model International 2023 winner Rishab Chhetry of Mantripukhri were also felicitated on the occasion.
The Union informed that as part of the event, Madan Kumar Limbu Girls Scholarship, 2023 was awarded to five Gorkha girls, who passed HSLC Examination, 2023 from government schools.
The scholarship has cash component of Rs 10,000 each.
AMGSU in the statement further said that restoration of peace has slowly started and appealed to all communities residing in the state to refrain from violence and work for long lasting peace.
It also urged the state and central governments to sort-out the misunderstanding between the two warring communities to avert such incidents in the coming days.
It also extended its heartfelt condolences to those who lost their family members in the violence including one belonging to Gorkhali/Nepali community, who was killed at Serou and also prayed for the speedy recovery of the all the injured people.
AMGSU further appealed to the authority concerned to arrange security and ensure resettlement of the displaced families and provide free education to the affected students.
Gorkhas are peace loving people and AMGSU is playing key role to restore peace and normalcy in the state without favouring any particular community and the Gorkha community of the state should not get involved in any type of activities which can harm the sentiment of any particular community, it appealed.
The Union further warned that some social media accounts have been opened in the name of the community which has been uploading negative comments on social media platform.
If this continues, then AMGSU will file complaints to authority concerned.
