Imphal, September 25 2023:
National People's Party (NPP) national vice president N Joykumar has said that the party will soon convene state and national executive meetings to take a decision on continuing or withdrawal of support to the BJP government.
Addressing media persons at NPP state office, Naoremthong, here, on Monday, N Joykumar said that the violence in Manipur is worsening day-by-day instead of ebbing and there is no sign of the BJP government taking any concrete measure to resolve the crisis.
Even though NPP supports the government, the party is not always agreeable to whatever the BJP government does and accordingly the party will soon convene state and national executive meeting to take a decision on whether to continue or withdraw support to the government, he said.
According to Joykumar, the ethnic violence that erupted on May 3 is going to complete 5 months but there is no sign of slow-down.
There is also no sign of the govern ment doing anything concrete to resolve the crisis any sooner.
Taking the prevailing situation in Manipur very seriously, NPP president Conrad Sangma convened a meeting in Shillong on September 21 and discussed the state situation with party's office bearers, national executives and state MLAs.
During the meeting, Conrad Sangma stressed the need for taking a concrete decision on the part of the party as the violence lingers on and there is no word to describe the situation in Manipur.
In view of the worsening situation, civil society organisations have mounted pressure to disclose party's stand.
However, NPP has very clear stand and the party is not always agreeable to whatever the BJP does, Joykumar said, add ing that ideologies of BJP and NPP differ though NPP supports the government with utmost sincerity.
He also said that NPP national vice president in-charge of Manipur and Meghalaya deputy CM Preston Tinsong will soon come to Manipur and take part in the state and national executive meetings wherein the party will take a concrete decision.
Since the eruption of the violence till date, the state government seems to be taking action against one side only and armed Kukis are resuming firing just after the government served IS days ultimatum to return the looted arms.
In this situation, how could those defending the land in the valley willingly return arms to the government, Joykumar questioned the government and stressed the need for both the state and central forces to work with sincerity if they were really committed to recovering the looted arms.
