Imphal, September 25 2023:
The Congress party has asked the Chief Minister to seek an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the names of five Congress MLA included so that the MLAs of the ruling and Opposition parties can meet the National leader and highlight the problem of the State together.
Speaking to the media at Congress Bhavan today, senior spokesperson of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) N Bupenda Meitei said that all the Congress MLAs will cooperate with the Youth of Manipur (YoM) who requested all the ruling and Opposition MLAs including the Chief Minister to come to Delhi and mount strong pressure on the Central leaders together to restore normalcy in Manipur.
Saying that the Congress party and other like-minded parties had made several attempts to meet Prime Minis- ter Narendra Modi and other Central leaders at New Delhi, he said that the Prime Minister went on a foreign tour when the Opposition parties were camping at New Delhi to meet him.
Continuing that the Prime Minister is not giving appointment to meet even the MLAs of the ruling parties who are at New Delhi currently, Bupenda Meitei said that the Prime Minister is still maintaining studied silence on Manipur violence which will complete five months in some days.
It is unlikely that the Prime Minister will give appointment to the Congress MLAs to meet him given the past record, the Congress spokesperson said and asked the Chief Minister to seek an audience with the Prime Minister by including the names of the five Congress MLAs.
Congress will support all initiatives taken up in the interest of Manipur, he said.
