Imphal, September 25 2023:
In connection with the complaint filed against Kangleipak Kanba Lup's three-year professional ban on actress Soma Laishram, the Manipur Human Rights Commission has directed the MHRC Registry to issue a notice upon the respondents to show cause as to why action should not be taken against Luwangcha U Ngamkheingakpa, secretary general, KKL and/or his organisation for issuing such a press release.
The respondents for this complaint case are the DGP, Manipur, Superintendent of Police (SP), Imphal West; OC, City Police Station and Luwangcha U Ngamkheingakpa.
The MHRC has also directed Luwangcha U Ngamkheingakpa to appear before the Commission on September 27 and submit his reply.
Without stating their final opinion at this stage, the MHRC has said prima-facie that KKL's press release and three-year ban is a violation of Soma Laishram's human rights, reasoning that a person's profession is their source of livelihood.
MHRC has also requested DGP Manipur to see the allegations made in the complaint petition and put a stop to such alleged activities as perpetrated by the KKL secretary general to prevent issuance of similar press statements that are a violation of human rights in the future.
