Imphal, December 21 2023:
The Forum for Restoration of Peace has submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah with a plea to seize unauthorised arms and ammunition from both the hills and valley districts of Manipur.
The memorandum was submitted through Governor Anusuiya Uikey and it was signed by the Forum convenor Ashang Kasar and co-convenor Islam Makakcha.
Nothing, however, is mentioned about the situation in hill districts especially Kuki dominated districts in the content of the memorandum.
The Forum said that proliferation of illegal arms in the wrong hands causes much bloodshed, mayhem and violence in Imphal, creating fear psychosis among the innocent people.
Continuing that the lives of the minority communities in Imphal have become insecure and risky, the Forum claimed that there is complete chaos, confusion and lawlessness in the valley.
The Forum claimed that the State Government has failed to rein in anti-social elements and armed groups leading to the breakdown of State machinery to control the restive and volatile situation.
Businesses have come to a standstill due to rampant extortions and collection of illegal taxes by different armed groups, the Forum added.
Seeking intervention of the Union Home Ministry to bring an amicable solution to the protracted conflict in Manipur, the Forum urged the Union Home Ministry to seize unauthorised and unlicensed arms and ammunition from both the hills and valley districts of Manipur and restore normalcy in the State.
