Timely intervention can cure Brugada Syndrome

Informing that Manglaknaba (Brugada Syndrome), a form of Sudden Arrhythmia Dead Syndrome (SADS), is a heart condition that can cause fainting, shortness of breath and cardiac arrest leading to sudden death, SKY Hospital chairman Dr L Shyamkishore said that timely treatment can prevent loss of life.
Speaking at the launch ceremony of Cardiac Arrhythmia Clinic of the hospital on Thursday, Dr Shyamkishore informed that cardiac arrhythmia is a heart condition when there is abnormal electrical activities in one's heart but can be treated and cured.
It can happen to any person including normally healthy persons.
The hospital is now equipped with state of the art equipment procured from the USA for treatment of the condition, he said.
The chairman further informed that the hospital has been providing treatment facility for cardiac arrhythmia since the last eight years.
Nevertheless, many patients of the state are visiting other cities for the same treatment led by misperception that there is no treatment avail -able in this state.
There are several patients, who went to other states, but returned and received the treatment at SKY Hospital, he said.
He said that Brugada Syndrome is a genetic condition and as such screening of the whole family members is required.
Some people believe that this condition is incurable which is mythic.
Timely treatment can help save one's precious life, he said while encouraging people suffering from the condition to get early treatment.
A former patient, who had completed his treatment at the hospital, said that he went to other states to get the treatment.
However, the condition keeps recurring even after following their treatment plan.
Consequently, he consulted doctors at SKY Hospital and today, he is cured of the condition for which he is thankful to the hospital and its doctors.
