Malem to continue fast

Transgender activist Malem Thongam has categorically stated that she will continue her fast unto death protest till peace and harmony is restored in the State.
She made the remark to media persons today at Lamphel Court Complex soon after she was released on PR bond of Rs 30,000 after being produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East this afternoon.
Malem Thongam (26) of Maiba Khul Mayai Leikai was produced before the Court from Manipur Central Jail, New Lambulane after the completion of 3 days judicial remand after being arrested on March 1 on the alleged charges of trying to commit suicide and promoting enmity among different communities.
On the other hand, counsel of Malem Thongam had filed a bail application to the Court.
During the hearing, no further judicial custody remand application was filed from the side of prosecution.
Court after hearing the submission of Malem Thongam's counsel ordered the release of the transgender activist on execution of Rs 30,000 PR bond.
Speaking to media persons, Malem Thongam reiterated her demand for restoration of peace in Manipur but admitted that till date there is no sign of peace as attacks continue.
As the authority concerned has failed to heed her demand, she will continue her fast unto death protest till her demand is met, she maintained.
