Trio rounded up with arms for assaulting UNLF duo

The Pambei-led United National Liberation Front (UNLF) has informed that the organisation has pulled up three out of four people involved in assaulting two of its cadres and snatching arms from them.
They also seized some arms and ammunition from the accused trio.
Informing this to the media on Monday, UNLF commanding officer Major Ningollakpa alias Boicha of Pakhangba battalion identified the three individuals rounded up as Khwairakpam Kumar (40) son of Samu of Thanga Oinam Leikai, presently staying in a rent at Lamphel Yaipha Leikai; Nongthombam Goroba (38) son of late Nongyai of Langol Game Village Zone 4; and Sougrakpam Hemjit (36) son of S Rajen of Ithai Mamang Leikai, presently staying in a rent near Lamphel Family Court.
Four SLRs, three INSAS rifles, one Mini INSAS Rifles, one double barrel gun with 16 rounds, three bulletproof vests, one Samurai sword, and 122 ammunition of different fire arms were seized from them, he said.
The three individuals along with the seized arms and ammunition were produced before the media at the Front's Ingourok Brigade 1 camp on Monday.
Recalling the incident, Major Ningollakpa said that some armed miscreants, who identified themselves as village volunteers, held two cadres of UNLF-P at gunpoint in Naoremthong DC area on Sunday night around 11.30, assaulted them and took away their arms.
Consequently, Pakhangba battalion of the Front investigated into the incident and rounded up the trio and recovered the arms and ammunition.
There was another person in the group, who is a resident of Sekta, Major Ningollakpa said while asking him to surrender to the Front at the earliest.
He also asked all concerned to refrain from anti-social activities in Imphal area using arms but to go to the crisis affected areas in the foothills to assist in defending the villages.
UNLF-P chief of army staff in-charge and secretary, external affairs & regional affairs Th Thoiba alias Sidabamapu appreciated the Front's Pakhangba battalion for its achievement in solving the incident and rounding up the armed miscreants.
He appealed to all concerned to refrain from threatening public using arms and challenging the Front.
He also said that it has no issue with village volunteers and it will support them.
However, the party will not tolerate armed miscreants causing threat to the public and indulging in anti-party activities, he added.
One of the three individuals tendered apology to UNLF-P in front of media, for their misdeed and assured that they will not get involved in such activities in future.
