Assam Rifles pays tribute to brave-hearts

A wreath laying ceremony was conducted in honour of rifleman Ram Bahadur Pun, who made the ultimate sacrifice displaying unwavering courage and dedication to duty despite facing overwhelming odds in intense counter insurgency operation in Aizawl, Mizoram on March 3, 1966.In a release, PRO IGAR (S) recalled that MNF insurgents attacked Aizawl jail, setting free MNF prisoners and capturing the jail while an Assam Rifles patrol party tasked to liberate the jail from the MNF insurgents was fired upon heavily.
Rifleman Ram Bahadur Pun, while administering first-aid to the injured soldiers, came under intense gunfire and got fatally injured, consequently making the supreme sacrifice while saving the lives of others on March 3, 1966.The ceremony, attended by officers, junior commissioned officers and other ranks, commenced with the wreath laying by commandant and a motivational speech to all ranks narrating the story of the braveheart to infuse a sense of pride and honour in the soldiers.
In a similar event, wreath laying ceremony for rifleman (General Duty) Ram Nath Saha of 15 AR was conducted to commemorate his supreme sacrifice on March 2, 2000 in an IED blast laid by undergrounds (UGs) at Zunheboto Nagaland).
Officers, JCOs and other ranks were present for the wreath laying ceremony and the guard of honour.
