MUC urges intervention of authority

Manipur Users Collective (MUC) appealed for immediate intervention regarding alleged deceitful removal and transfer of inmates undergoing rehabilitation by certain private rehab centres with the help of with armed miscreants.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club, MUC co-chairperson Ksh Basantakumar contended that some individuals running private rehab centres have been deceiving inmates undergoing Methadone Maintenance Therapy (MMT), in an attempt to transfer the inmates to their private rehab centres.
They have been spreading false misinformation about MMT likening it to a drug worse than heroin, in an attempt to relocate the inmates to their private centres.
Informing that MMT is a treatment enlisted among the World Health Organisation's (WHO) essential medicines, he appealed to all concerned not to resort to such deceitful actions.
Drawing immediate attention of authorities concerned, Basantakumar also urged the Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MACS) and Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) to organise awareness programmes to tackle the issue.
The co-chairperson then proposed that Social Welfare Department check whether private rehab centres in the state are following mandated guidelines.
