Imphal, March 04 2024:
There is not yet any discussion about waiving off loans of people.
However, farmers who had taken loans may avail benefits and relief being given by the India Government and RBI by submitting relevant documents to the banks before March 24, said N Biren Singh.
The CM said this while replying to a query raised by MLA Th Arunkumar citing Meetei (Meitei) Tribe Union's appeal to the Government to waive off loans.
The whole of the State, through a notice, was declared affected by violent riots on June 21 and as such, people may avail the reliefs provided under Government of India and RBI's norms.
RBI had earlier set September 20, 2023 as deadline for submitting documents to banks to avail relief [moratorium] on loans.
As many people didn't submit documents, the deadline was moved to December 23, 2023, and again changed to March 24, 2024, said Chief Minister N Biren Singh, appealing to the loanees to visit their banks and avail the relief.
