World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development observed

The Institution of Engineers (India), Manipur State Centre observed World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development 2024 on the theme, "Engineering Solutions for a sustainable World" at the Seminar Hall of IEI Manipur State Centre today.
The programme began with a welcome address delivered by Er.
Huirem Bharat Meitei, joint honorary secretary, IEI Manipur State Centre, said a release issued by IEI.

RK Nando Singh and Dr Suresh Thokchom enlightened the gathering about the theme of the event.
In his presidential speech, Er L Swamikanta Singh, chairman, IEI Manipur State Centre spoke at length about the importance of observing today's programme.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Th Subhaschandra Singh, honorary secretary of the State Centre.
A Technical Talk titled "Alkali activated Geopolymer- Excellent alternative sustainable binder for future" was deliberated by Dr Suresh Thokchom.
Dr Suresh mentioned that there is a need for sustainable development in the area of construction and construction materials.
He also introduced the concept of Geopolymer which substantiates the theme of the observation and added that Geopolymers are an excellent alternate binder compared to traditional cement based concrete for high durability, heat resistance and better mechanical strength.
He furtehr shared that alkali activated Geoplymer could become one of the sustainable alternate binder.
The programme was attended by many Corporate Members, academicians, engineers and student participants.
