Governor inaugurates Regional Convention of North Eastern States

Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Monday inaugurated the "The Regional Convention of North Eastern states on the Available Millets in North Eastern Region of Bharat and its Benefit in Nutrition, MDM, Anganwadis and Take Home Raashan" at the auditorium of College of Agriculture (CoA), Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal.
According to statements issued by PRO Raj Bhavan and CAU Imphal, the two day convention was jointly organised by CAU, Imphal and National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), New Delhi.
The inaugural ceremony was also attended by Dr Anupam Mishra, Vice Chancellor, CAU, Imphal; Prof Indira Sarangthem, Dean, CoA, CAU, Imphal; Dr Ng Iboyaima Singh, Dean, College of Food Technology, CAU, Imphal; Keisham Pradipkumar, Chairman, MCPCR; Shaista K Shah, senior technical expert NCPCR and Ng Uttam Singh, Director, Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion, Anusuiya Uikey briefed about the importance of including millets in daily food diets to ensure a healthy lifestyle.
She highlighted the importance of millets as gluten free food packed with valuable minerals and vitamins and added that it might be a perfect food for children.
Appreciating CAU Imphal for organising such an important convention on millets, the Governor said that such regional conference will provide a platform for dialogue among all stakeholders to promote the use of millets in improving child nutrition and develop collaborative work.
"Due to its high value, the Government of India declared 2018 as the National Year of Millets and the United Nations General Assembly in its 7th session declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets", she added.
The Governor also inspected the exhibition stalls set up at the venue and lauded the efforts of the participants for introducing millet based products which invariably contribute to healthy life.
Dr Anupam Mishra asserted that children are the future of any Nation and availability of nutritious food for children is a Fundamental Right of any Child.
"CDPOs, ICDS Department, Anganwadi workers, Nutrition Scientists can work together in realizing the goal of fulfilling this task by including the Millet Based Products in Flagship programmes of Government like Mid Day Meal, Take Home Raashan etc", he added.
Notably, three technical sessions on different themes will be conducted during the convention with eminent experts from across the country.
