Imphal, July 17 2023:
The Manipur Human Rights Commission has directed Commissioner Education and Secretary BOSEM to appear before the Commission tomorrow.
The direction was given while the Commission was hearing a case it had taken up suo-moto on the basis of a news item which claimed that BOSEM had rejected candidature of 96 students who were to appear in the HSLC examinations due to negligence of the school authorities.
Notably, the MHRC had issued notice to the Commissioner Education (S), Director Education (S) and Secretary BOSEM (Board of Secondary Education Manipur) in connection with the case.
The Commission had asked if the BOSEM and Education Department would hold the examination for the students whose candidature were rejected due their schools' fault.
While the legal officer appearing for Director Education (S) submitted that he has no objection to BOSEM holding the examination for the students during the compartmental examination, the Commission, during hearing today, noted that the persons appearing for BOSEM and Department of Education (S) are not in a position to submit a clear stand.
The Commissioner of Education and Secretary BOSEM shall appear in person before the Commission tomorrow and state their stand clearly, said the bench of Chairperson Justice UB Saha and Member KK Singh.
