Imphal, February 16 2024: The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has categorically stated that the large-scale violence and arson seen at Churachandpur on Thursday was planned to destroy documents kept at the mini-secretariat after the Chief Minister's announcement to update NRC with 1961 as the base year.

Speaking to media persons at their Lamphelpat office this afternoon, COCOMI media coordinator Somorendro Thokchom pointed out that there was little protest when three ZEOs were suspended earlier.

Compared to the suspension of the three ZEOs, suspension of a Head Constable is a trivial matter, he said.

Burning down the mini-secretariat, Deputy Commissioner's quarters, office of Superintendent of Police and police station for suspension of a Head Constable who took side of Kuki narco-terrorists is an act of sheer aggression.

The Government must take up strong action against the ITLF which declared that the Churachandpur SP must leave Kuki inhabited areas within a specific period.

All the ITLF leaders must be booked otherwise the people of Manipur may turn against India, the COCOMI media coordinator said.

Given the fact that the paramilitary forces unleashed brute force and did not spare even aged women and small children when there was little protest in the valley whereas they did nothing even when army convoys were threatened and forced to turn back by Kuki people, he questioned the sense of fairness of paramilitary forces and the army.

As such partisan nature can seriously undermine the prestige of all security agencies of India, COCOMI would soon send a representation to the Chief of the Army Staff, he said.

The Government of India needs to realise that illegal immigrants and narco-terrorists have been attacking the people of Manipur after they brought all the Kuki people who were there in Manipur before 1961 under their control, Somorendro said.

He asserted that the Government of India ought to withdraw from the SoO agreement.

If the Central Government and the State Government work together after abrogating SoO agreement, the Manipur crisis can be resolved very soon, he added.
