Imphal, December 29 2023:
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has questioned the BJP Government's adamant refusal to take up action against the 10 Kuki MLAs.
Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the 167th birth anniversary celebration of Bir Tikendrajit held at Congress Bhavan, BT Road here today, MPCC working president K Devabrata asked, "Why is the BJP Government mad at the Congress party and the people for demanding befitting action against the 10 Kuki MLAs who have been scheming openly to disintegrate Manipur?" .
Responding to the call of Chief Minister N Biren to ensure election of two BJP MPs from the State in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party was only asking the BJP Government to first bring a solution to the eight months old Manipur crisis, said the Congress leader.
"We said that the BJP's two Lok Sabha candidates may be elected unopposed if the BJP Government brought peace in the State", Devabrata recalled.
Dismissing the criticisms made by BJP against the Congress party's proposed Bharat Nyay Yatra, he decried that BJP has strayed quite far from the duties and responsibilities of a ruling party.
MPCC vice-president Hareshwar Goswami said that the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891 was a war fought between Manipuri forefathers and the mighty British empire.
"It was our forefathers' supreme sacrifices which protected the integrity of Manipur and its territorial boundary", Hareshwar said.
Earlier, a large number of Manipuri patriots fought together and valiantly, and brought an end to the Seven Years' Devastation.
Thus they rescued Manipur from the hands of Burmese invaders, he reminded.
He then called upon all the people to understand the gravity of the current crisis and work collectively to save Manipur.
MPCC vice-president L Tilotama, many other Congress leaders, MPCC office bearers, PCC members and office bearers of different Congress frontal organisations and cells attended the birth anniversary observation.
