Role of womenfolk hailed on Meira Paibi Day

The 43rd Meira Paibi Day was observed under the aegis of All Manipur Women's Social Reformation and Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj) at Ima Khunthokhanbi Shanglen in DM University campus, Friday.
Speaking at the observance function which was attended by meira paibi activists from across the state, Nupi Samaj president Thokchom Ramani expressed that similar to single colour of fire (torch held by meira paibi), there is no deviation from the objectiyes of the meira paibi movement.
Manipuri womenfolk launched the meira paibi movement not under the influence of any individual or organisation but to fight against social ills of alcoholism, drug addiction and sexual violence in the Manipur valley over four decades back.
She also said that meira paibi came out voluntarily for the cause and sake of the motherland and to save the society from all social evils.
There is no division among the meira paibi of the state as all groups are proactively involved and when the state faces any serious issue.
She also lamented all indifferent attitude of the government to grievances of the meira paibi activists since the outbreak of the current humanitarian crisis and suggested that the government do the needful to ensure peace prevails in the state by putting an end to the terror acts of the Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists.
Former MU history department head professor Naorem Joykumar, who was also present on the occasion, said observance of Meira Paibi Day is not for mere formality but is an event for the womenfolk to embrace new ideas and strategies on how to guide the society to a better path.
He also noted that Manipuri women are quite different from their counterparts in other states or countries as could be comprehended from their firm resolve to lead from the front when adversary elements pose threat to Manipur.
A two-minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to departed meira paibi leaders Pebam Chaobi, Athokpam Momol and Khomdram Indumani.
The function was also attended by AMKIL president L Nganbi, Tammi Chingmi Apunba Nupi Lup president Y Momon, CHITUWA president M Purnimasi, WASEDEV president RK Tharaksana, IKAL president N Memma, Nupi Samaj advisor Kh Indu Leima and Kabui Mother Association president Atongpui Kabui as presidium members.
