Mortar shell, 38mm MGL among arms recovered

Imphal, December 29 2023:
A mortar shell was found from inside a pond located in the land plot of a former prad-han of Serou Gram Panchayat at Serou Mamang Leikai under Sugnu police station on Friday.
According to police-report, the shell was discovered during fishing in the pond around 8 am on Friday.
On being informed, a team of Sugnu police station and BSF cordoned off the site before a team of State Bomb Disposal Squad retrieved and safely exploded the shell at the outskirts of Serou Mamang Leikai around 4 pm.
On the other-hand, arms and ammunition were recovered during search operations conducted by state and central forces on Friday.
According to police report, a combined team of Churachandpur police and 36 Assam Rifles conducted search operation at Tuinom village from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm Friday during which one 38mm MGL (Regn No M19632018), four single barrel guns, four improvised mortars, one ammunition box with 24 rubber bullets, one 36 HE grenade, two improvised mortar bombs, two radio sets, six smoke gas shells and two 9mm pistols, were recovered.
A combined team of Imphal West district commandos, CRPF and Sekmai women police led by OC Inspector Ng Johnson conducted search operations at Awang Sekmai Mayai Leikai, Makha Leikai and Khunou from 1:10 pm till 4 pm.
The search operation covered 430 houses and verification of 1180 persons.
No arrest and seizure of arm and ammunition has been reported.
The same team also carried out area domination and sensitisation in Sekmai Leipat area till 4:50 pm.
Meanwhile, Kakching district police searched 35 houses at Wabagai Yangbi and verified 150 people but no arrest and confiscation of arms and ammunition was made.
Bishnupur district police along with 32 Battalion CRPF conducted search operations at Nambol Laitonjam during which 80 houses were searched and 120 people were verified as Thoubal district police carried out search operation at Charangpat Mamang Leikai during which verification of 180 people was carried out and 75 houses searched.
