Thoubal, December 29 2023:
The Nongpok Sayang Apunba Lup (NSAL) has appealed to the Yairipok public to refrain from celebrating New Year's Eve and New Year's Day on December 31 and January 1 respectively.
The Lup also appealed to people to avoid driving under the influence of intoxicating substances.
A public meeting was organised in this connection with the participation of Yairipok local clubs at Yairipok police station yesterday where multiple resolutions were passed.
The public meeting organised by NSAL was graced by Laishram Ananda Khuman, president, NSAL; Longjam Digen Singh, secretary, NSAL; Nongmaithem Subash, president, SEDO Club; Md Riyazuddin, SDPO Yairipok; Md Jeheruddin, OC Yairipok and representatives of Yairipok local clubs.
After the meeting concluded, Laishram Ananda Khuman, NSAL president, appealed against celebration of New Year's Eve and New Year's Day across Yairipok.
Moreover, he pointed out that during a check conducted at Yairipok Keithel in front of SEDO Club, drivers of heavy trucks especially tipper and dump trucks plying along Yairipok-Kasom Road were found without the necessary driving license.
In addition, it was discovered that the trucks were overloaded and many of the drivers were driving under the influence of intoxicating substances.
Decrying such acts of delinquency, Laishram Ananda Khuman cautioned that if such actions continue then the vehicle owners should be held accountable for any steps taken up by Yairipok local clubs.
On another note, he commented on the tragic accident which occured at Wangkhem on December 27 which claimed the life of a girl and left two others injured.
He stated that the vehicle owners involved in the accident had been advised to come back for a discussion on the matter yesterday morning.
However, they failed to show up.
This was strongly condemned by the locals.
