Imphal, January 16 2024:
Ex-Minister Ak Mirabai has urged the Government to take up befitting action against all those people who welcomed the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra with a big banner 'Welcome to Kukiland' at Kangpokpi yesterday.
Speaking to media persons at her Taobungkhok residence today, Mirabai decried that a group of people openly challenged the integrity of Manipur by holding a big banner inscribed with the words 'Welcome to Kukiland' as the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi reached Kangpokpi.
She also urged the Government to take up disciplinary action against those security personnel who remained mute spectators when the group of people welcomed the Congress leader and his followers with the 'Welcome to Kukiland' banner.
By doing so, those communal people tarnished the spirit of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, she said.
Saying that the incumbent Government has failed to govern the hill regions of the State, Ak Mirabai accused the State Government of making all attempts to sabotage the flag off ceremony of the yatra by imposing a number of restrictions.
The Government ought to show that there is rule of law by awarding exemplary punishment to all those people who openly challenged the integrity of Manipur as well as to all those security ersonnel and Government machinery who remained mute spectators to such highly provocative actions , she said.
She also decried how the State Government disallowed Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra to be flagged off from Imphal in the name of law and order.
She categorically asserted that enforcement of law and order should not be restricted to the valley areas alone.
