Philip, son of late Marcus Khongsai of New Moreh, is the prime suspect in the killing of the SDPO, who was shot dead on October 31, 2023 in the border town.
According to a reliable source, state forces including commando and special commando personnel deployed in Moreh to protect state's boundary and fighting anti-social elements have been discharging duty for the past several months without any break, with rice and dal as their only food ration.
In case the personnel opt for vegetable or other non-cereal dish, they have to purchase the same from their pocket money that too at exorbitant rate, the source added.
For the past three months, state forces deployed in the border town are unable to return to Imphal for treatment even if one falls sick with cessation of the Imphal-Moreh helicopter service in the last few days compounding the problem of the ailing personnel.
Nevertheless, state forces deployed in the border town are ready to face any challenge from Kuki-Zo militants and always remain alert at different places of the border town so that those trying to disintegrate Manipur could not operate freely, the source affirmed.
The source also suggested that the state government address shortages of state forces deployed in the border town at the earliest so as to boost morale of the personnel in discharging their duties efficiently.
