Imphal, January 16 2024:
While pointing out that Kuki militants have been continuing to attack Meetei settlements using bombs and automatic weapons despite claim of the government that peace and normalcy is returning in the state, Peoples' Action for National Democratic Force (PANDM) has questioned the silence and inaction of the government when Meeteis are being attacked unabatedly by the Kuki militants.
In a release, PANDM IPR secretary Niladhwaja Ching-subam informed that its 14th foundation day was celebrated at Irengbam Kangjeibung, Tiddim Road on January 13 in a simple manner.
He further questioned what kind of government it is when it failed to protect and secure the lives of its people.
Even though there is lack of clarity over the imposition of Article 355 of the Indian constitution, it is vividly clear through their actions with the appointment of Kuldiep Singh as security advisor to the chief minister, Niladhwaja said, while pointing out that the village defenders are guarding villages from the attacks of Kuki militants with inferior weapons.
The government has been remaining deaf to their demand for deployment of state forces while the security advisor continues to submit wrong reports even though he is aware that the Kuki militants are continuing to attack the Meetei settlements with central forces taking side of the perpetrators, he alleged.
Regarding the arrest of Philip Khongsai and Hemkholal Mate who are the prime suspects in the killing of SDPO Chingtham Anandkumar, the secretary demanded stringent punishment of the arrested suspects after due process of law.
While making it clear that people do not want compensation for those killed by the Kuki militants but are yearning for a peaceful and normal life, he asked the government to come up with a permanent solution and remove central forces who are siding with Kuki militants.
