Works Minister assures road development in Ukhrul

Ukhrul, January 16 2024:
Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam has stressed on the need to ramp up the road infrastructure development programme in all villages to boost the economic growth of the State.
He made the statement at the inaugural function of Xth Tangkhul Naga Zingtun Longphang (TNZL) sports cum cultural festival at Pharung village, today.
The Minister and a host of MLAs, high ranking officers of Ukhrul district were accorded a warm reception at Pharung village ground.
Gracing the function as the chief guest, Govindas inaugurated the newly constructed Pharung village ground, unveiled a stone monument and subsequently hoisted the TNZL flag.
The programme was held under the theme "Embracing Change" .

Speaking at the function, Govindas said that the State Government has pumped in a sum of Rs 52.88 crore for road development in western Tangkhul villages in Ukhrul.
Another Rs six crore will also be released soon, he added.
Saying that a project to construct one playground each in all villages is in the pipeline, the Works Minister maintained that the newly constructed Pharung village ground will be developed with better sporting infrastructure and amenities.
Govindas also announced that the lone primary school in Pharung village will be upgraded to junior high school and all infrastructure will be provided under CM School Fagathansi Programme-2.0 .
A village community hall will also be constructed at Pharung village, he added.
Chairman of TNZL Epchan Khapai thanked the visiting team for announcing a package of developmental works for western Tangkhul villages.
TNZL as a mark of gratitude presented a Haofa (Tangkhul canine) to Govindas.
Ukhrul DC Kengoo Zuringla, SP Ningshem Vashum, LDA Chairman Asnikumar, Pharung LOC convenor Miksha Phazang, NCW member Soso Shaiza, SDO Rohini Kumar and Caretaker Chairman of ADC, Ukhrul Mark Luithing also attended the programme among others .
The Works Minister was accompanied by MLAs M Rameshwar, J Kumo Sha, Th Arun Kumar, Kh Ibomcha, Shanti Singh and S Premchandra Singh.
Over 1400 delegates from 19 units of TNZL will be competing in different sporting events during the sports meet.
TNZL sports cum cultural festival was hosted by Pharung village and will conclude on January 23 .
