SHS orders screening for NCDs at relief camps

As many displaced people living in the relief camps have complex health needs, State Health Society, NHM state mission director Dr Somorjit Ningombam advised all concerned for get screened in the district under Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) and Chief Minister Health for all (CMHA) scheme to cover specific relief camps for general assessment of rehabilitation needs and also to form close connections with community leaders and other NGOs willing to give services including care of elderly.
In a memorandum, Dr Somorjit advised DNO-NCD to visit relief camps to supervise NCD related activities, screen diabetes and hypertension patients by district CMHA team and confirmation of suspects by medical Officers assigned to relief camps.
It further urged NCD trained doctors to visit regularly for supervision of the management of suspect and known cases of NCDs, including follow up of diabetes and hypertension cases in the relief camps.
Uninterrupted supply of medications for diabetes and hypertension should be ensured.
Physiotherapist should visit to provide services to post stroke patients and to other patients wherever necessary, whereas counsellors should reach out to people to render services such as mental health counselling, health promotion activities and identify cancer patients and provide linkage for day care chemotherapy and make arrangement for transport whenever required.
Meanwhile non-communicable disease state nodal officer Dr Premchand informed that around 2000 people were screened for diabetes, hypertension and other NCDs under CMHA and NCD programme.
Not only proper treatment was given to BP and High blood sugar patients, medicines were also provided at free of cost.
Presently, state and district health society are giving day care chemotherapy and palliative support to 13 cancer patients in different relief camps.
Physiotherapy session is going on in relief camps, he continued, while adding that 183 new inmates detected diabetes and 236 cases of hypertension detected.
