Imphal, September 12 2023:
It is not entirely impossible for Meetei Pangals, who once view Kukis as closely-bonded siblings, as sworn enemies, remarked All Manipur Meitei Pangal Clubs' Organisation (AMPACO).
Addressing the media at its Hatta office, here, on Tuesday, AMPACO president MF Manwar Ali said that the assault and attempted murder of SI Sabir Ahmed by Kukis in Churachandpur a few days might compel the Meetei Pangals, who have always considered Kukis closer than siblings, to take the perpetrating community as sworn enemies.
It is becoming increasingly clear that the Kukis are not just in conflict with the Meeteis but against all communities, he opined and cautioned the Kukis that the Meetei Pangals could take a firm stand against the latter if such incidents were to continue, especially when AMPACO along with AMUCO has been working to restore peace in the state.
He continued that the Meetei Pangals have been relatively neutral and trying to help resolve the conflict between the two communities.
However, the Kukis' assault on SI Sabir is condemnable as it is akin to planting seeds of further enmity.
Further condemning the separate administration demand of the Kukis, Manwar remarked that the Kukis' actions have repeatedly shown who is at fault and who is right in the on going conflict.
This is not the first time Kukis have attacked other communities aside from the Meeteis.
Over the past 1-2 months, Kukis have attacked Meetei-Pangal inhabited areas such as Kwakta and injured many, two of which have been left disabled, while also burning houses belonging to the community.
Pangal Students' Organisation (PSO) president Farid Bogimayum, who also attended the press meet, strongly condemned the assault and attempted murder of SI Sabir Ahmed and his friends by Kukis in Churachandpur district on September 9.He raised suspicions over the conduct and attitude of Kukis against the Meetei Pangal community who have calling for restoration of peace in the state, and asked whether the Kukis considered every community in Manipur as their enemy.
He then demanded the suspected Kuki militants to clarify on the incident as soon as possible.
