Imphal, September 12 2023:
Even as Bengali people are collecting donation for the Kukis in the name of religion, more than 10 houses belonging to the community were torched by the Kukis at Torbung in Manipur, stated social activist Rohan Philem and urged the Bengalis in West Bengal to assess ground report before extending any help to any community affected by the ongoing violence in Manipur.
Addressing media persons at Kolkata Press Club on Tuesday, Rohan Philem said every Bengali family in West Bengal would repent about collecting donation for the Kukis after learning about torching of Bengali houses by Kukis in the ongoing conflict in Manipur.
He said that the ongoing conflict in Manipur erupted on May 3 is not about Hindu-Christian conflict but a big blow to the narco-terrorism.
Since the conflict broke out, more than 200 houses of Meetei Christians including bibles were torched while there is report of Kukis vandalising eight Meetei Christian Churches.
People across the globe talk and discuss about torching of 350 churches but the matter of torching 393 temples must also be discussed, he said, adding that it was very unfortunate that victims of only one side was highlighted though both the sides are victims of the ongoing conflict.
According to Rohan Philem, the national media campaign to highlight illogical donation being carried out by the Kukis in the name of religion has begun and the campaign will be conducted throughout India.
There is no one who does not want peace but appealing to the Meeteis for peace after the community has been demonised wrongfully to the global people is unacceptable, he said adding that Meeteis were not wrong and this fact will be made known throughout India.
He also said Meetei Christians will stand till their last breath for protecting territorial integrity of Manipur.
