Imphal, September 12 2023:
Village Authority Chairman Council (VACC) Tamenglong Block and Chairmen & Secretaries Association (CSAT) Tamenglong have warned of mass protest in Tamenglong if the ban on internet is not resolved or lifted by the government within September 16.In a joint appeal made to the Tamenglong district administration, VACC president Namsulung Gonmei and CSAT president Makiujei Gangmei said that many facets of economic and social activities are now badly affected by the shutdown of internet services whereas the government is increasingly investing in e-governance initiatives on various aspects such as MGNREGS implementation, business, communication, financial, transportation and educational activities.
As many new problems have risen, the state government and the district administration should revoke the ban on internet services and all cellular networks must be made available for free flow of information to grow and flourish the same in a democratic society in this era of digitalisation without threatening basic rights.
The two organisations also said that NFSA food grains meant for the poor consumers should be distributed at regular interval without any backlog to curb black-marketing in such dark times.
They also drew attention of the district administration, which had directed the Tamenglong transporters to reduce taxi fare to Rs 600, that agents-in Imphal are charging Rs 700 contrary to the DC's order.
