Kakching, September 12 2023:
Stating that some organisations in Kakching are imposing restrictions on claiming the mortal remains of her husband Yengkhom Jiten (49) of Kakching Chumnang Leikai, lying at JNIMS morgue after he was killed by Assam Rifles in the Pallel incident, Jiten's wife Yengkhom ongbi Manitombi appealed to the organisations concerned to explain reason behind the restriction.
Addressing a press meet at Kakching Chumnang Leikai on Monday, Manitombi conveyed gratitude to all the organisations and people of the state, who are seeking justice for her late husband.
As her family was trying to bring back her husband's body for his final rites on Sunday, some organisations based in Kakching imposed restriction for reasons best known to them.
Expressing concern over such intervention, she appealed to the organisations to clarify reason for the same within two days.
Even though her husband was the main provider for her family, she will not compromise his death with a mere Rs 10 lakh, which will not bring him back.
Any understanding arrived with the government was facilitated by the JAC and the public.
However, it is unfortunate for some people to brand her as someone who would trade her husband's death with some cash taking advantage of her family's financial condition, Manitombi said.
She further said that her husband now belongs to the people of Manipur and she and her family have no objection on any decision of the public, she said.
Western Kakching Development Organisation (WKDO) and United Youth Progressive Organisation (UNYPO) Kakching Chumnang Leikai also decried the restriction imposed on Jiten's family claiming his body.
In a joint statement, the two local clubs said that the JAC formed against the killing of Jiten by Assam Rifles met chief minister and submitted a charter of demands.
After the CM agreed to fulfil maximum of the demands, the JAC agreed to claim the body and consequently, the JAC along with family members went to JNIMS morgue on Sunday to bring back the body.
However, they could not bring the body due to restrictions imposed by several organisations based in Kakching, she said and expressed remorse over imposition of restriction.
The statement further said that Kakching Chumnang Leikai will refrain from joining the vigil duty entrusted by Langsai Thouna for some time until the matter is sorted out.
It is unfortunate that a lady spokesperson of Langsai Thouna, in a meeting held on Sunday, called residents of Kakching Chumnang Leikai as saleable people while adding that they can contribute and provide the compensation of Rs 10 lakh if they want.
The statement demanded an apology from the lady spokesperson at the earliest while cautioning of filing legal suit.
