Imphal, September 12 2023:
Chungkham Taratombi Leima, mother of Chungkham Sanjit has requested the Central of Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file a criminal appeal against the impugned order passed by the Sessions Judge, Imphal East on July 26, 2023 to the High Court of Manipur at the earliest.
After investigation into the infamous Khwairamband Bazar killing of Th Rabina Devi and Ch Sanjit Meitei on July 23, 2009, CBI submitted charge-sheets to the Court concerned and the trial was conducted.
On completion of the trial, the Sessions Judge, Imphal East passed an order on July 26, 2023 whereby all the nine accused personnel of Manipur Police Commando were acquitted.
"It may be noted that photographs of the sequence of events leading to the killing of Ch Sanjit were published in Tehelka Magazine clearly showing the cold blooded nature of the killing by taking him (Sanjit) inside a pharmacy.
This fact was also established in the post mortem report of Ch Sanjit", said a letter submitted by Taratombi Leima to the CBI Director.
Moreover, the main accused Head Constable Th Herojit Singh has publicly confessed to the killing of Sanjit on the order of the higher authorities.
The confession was widely covered by the media and his affidavit was even submitted to the Supreme Court of India in the ongoing EEVFAM v/s UoI case, the mother added.
