Prof Tombi birthday celebrated, book released

Nongmaithem Foundation, Keishampat Laimajam Leikai and Tungi Yaiphanaba Semba Kanglup, Samurou jointly celebrated the 82nd birthday of professor Nongmaithem Tombi at Manipur Press Club, here, on Friday.
As part of the commemorative event, a book based on professor Nongmaithem Tombi's radio plays and film scripts 'Jahera', 'Jananeta Irabot' and 'Thawan Michak Amana Kenkhiba' was also released in the presence of Sahitya Akademi awardee Maibam Nabakishore, AIR Imphal former head of programme Adhikarimayum Geetchandra Sharma, 6 MR former deputy commandant Leihaothabam Kunjakishore Sharma, and artiste RK Hemabati among others.
Speaking at the programme, Professor N Tombi announced that "Pebet Award" will be presented to women who are sole bread winners of their families and are struggling to bring up their children, in recogni tion of their sacrifices as depicted in the folktale "Pebet Amadi Houdong Lamboiba" where the mother 'Pebet' bird wisely defended her children from a hungry cat even though the odds were stacked against her.
The award will be presented on the occasion of International Women's Day, he said along with disclosing plans for organising Pebet theatre and literature festivals.
