Manipuri Film Festival begins at MSFDS

A three-day Manipuri Film Festival organised by Heritage Arts & Cultural Centre, Manipur, commenced from Friday at the auditorium of Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS), Palace Compound, here.
The opening ceremony of the festival being held under the aegis of North Eastern Council (NEC) was attended by IAS (Retd) RK Nimai as chief guest, Film Forum Manipur chairman Laimayum Surjakanta Sharma as president and JNMDA director P Bilash as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, RK Nimai noted that Manipuri film makers have enough talent which emerging enthusiasts should try to emulate and produce films that could impress the global audience and participate in international film festival.
However, progress in the field of filmmaking will be onerous if the current trend in the state continues, he opined, while categorically stating that films produced by new film makers are bereft of value as they lack knowledge.
According to RK Nimai, film industry in Manipur needs to adopt latest technology and equipment so that local films could compete at the international level which will subsequently help in the development of the local industry.
He also stressed the need for organising film festivals at regular interval to not only draw the audience but also provide platform to the budding .filmmakers better understand nuances of film production through interaction with the experienced producers and directors.
A total of five films will be screened at the festival, which opened with the screening of Aribam Syam Sharma's 'Imagi Ningthem' .
