CCpur, March 22 2024:
Zomi Students' Federation (ZSF) has informed the public that the Delhi high court refused to direct Manipur government to take steps to facilitate examination centres in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts for Civil Services Examination-2024 to be conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
Despite strong arguments from the ZSF legal team led by advocate Nizam Pasha, the Delhi high court refund to issue directive to Manipur government for ensuring UPSC-CSE centres in Kuki-Zo inhabited districts of Churachandpur and Kangpokpi, the ZSF legal desk said.
While updating public about the hearing of the petition that the Federation had filed, the legal desk recounted that advocate Nizam Pasha, during the hearing on Friday, questioned as to why UPSC-CSE centres cannot be allotted in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts when election machineries are in place already in the two districts.
Advocate Nizam Pasha also placed before the court that the district administrations of Churachandpur and Kangpokpi had given positive report for conduct of the UPSC-CSE examination in the two districts and questioned the reasons for denial of exam centres in the two districts.
The advocate further informed the court that Imphal is still reeling under violence almost every day and questioned as to why the Government of Manipur is facilitating a centre in Imphal.
During the hearing, the Delhi high court agreed alternative suggestion put up by ZSF that Manipur government bear boarding, lodging and transport charges of the Kuki-Zomi candidates from Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts who are to appear in the UPSC-CSE examination at the nearest available centre outside Manipur.
The court also directed UPSC to allow aspirants belonging to Kuki-Zomi community to change their centre of examination.
However, Manipur government was reluctant to facilitate accommodation for aspirants and sought time till next week to seek instructions on whether it is feasible or not.
