Imphal, June 25 2023:
Progressive Youth Organisation (PYO), Khun-drakpam Makha Leikai has threatened to shut down the relief camp opened by it at Naorem Birahari College, Khundrakpam if the four camp volunteers apprehended by RAF personnel and handed over to the police are not released by June 26 .
Addressing media persons at the relief camp on Saturday, PYO president Heigrujam Rajeshore informed that four volunteers had escorted some inmates of the relief camp to JNIMS for treatment on June 23 but detained on their way back by RAF near Khurai Popular High School and later handed over the police.
The four volunteers in police custody are Irungbam Rahul (25) s/o Irung-bam Shamu, Langpoklakpam Solomon (24) s/o Langpoklakpam Sharatchandra, Loushi-gam Samson (22) s/o Jugeshore and Akoijam Loyangamba (22) s/o late Akoijam Inao.
All of them are from Khundrakpam Makha Leikai.
He further informed that despite the volunteers possessing valid ID card and even the Imphal East DC recognising them as volunteers of the relief camp, the four are yet to be released.
This has demoralised the volunteers from extending voluntary services in the relief camp for the displaced persons which is a case of serious concern.
The decision to close down the relief has been taken up considering the discriminatory attitude of the state government towards the volunteers, Rajeshore said while reiterating that the relief camp will be closed down if the four volunteers are not released by June 26 .
