Security forces dispose bombs, destroy bunkers

At least eight bombs found planted in different locations and altogether 12 bunkers have been destroyed by security teams during search operations in different districts of the state on Sunday.
According to sources, an unexplod ed 51mm mortar was found at Khu rkhul Maning Leikai which the state bomb disposal team safely exploded.
Meanwhile, according to statement released by the Manipur Police Control Room, police and central forces conducted search operations in Tamenglong, Imphal East, Bish-nupur, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur and Kakching districts in the last 24 hours during which 12 bunkers found constructed in both the hills and valley areas were destroyed.
The search also led to recovery of three 51mm and 84 mm mortar shells each from the paddy field of Sahumphai village and one IED in a paddy field between Kangvai and S Kotlien villages.
The mortar shells and IED were exploded at the spot by bomb disposal team.
According to the control room, Manipur police have arrested 135 persons for violation of curfew, and cases related to looting abandoned houses and arson.
Flag marches, area domination, and cordon and search operation are still continuing in various parts of the state, it said while adding that a total of 1100 arms, 13702 ammunition and 250 bombs of different types have been recovered till date.
The control room appealed to the public to extend all possible help in bringing normalcy in the state and to contact rumour free number 9233522822 of Central Control Room to clarify any rumour and also to return and deposit looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or security forces immediately.
Amid the intensified campaigns to contain violence in the state, a standoff occurred on Sunday between a mob led by women and security forces at Itham village in Imphal East district after the latter reportedly rounded by some persons suspected to be members of a banned armed outfit.
The stand-off ended after a mature decision by the operational commander keeping in view the sensitivity of use of kinetic force against large irate mob led by women and likely casualties due to such action, said sources.
The village is situated 6 km east of Andro and in a densely wooded area.
A 1500-strong mob led by women surrounded the security column, and prevented the forces from carrying away the apprehended persons.
It is said that the security forces' decision to leave was taken, keeping in mind the need to avoid any collateral damage during the ongoing unrest in Manipur.
