Oppn parties slam Govt, mull public negotiation

Imphal, November 02 2023: Demanding explanation from the government over failure to resolve the six-month old conflict, 10 opposition parties have said that they along with the public will initiate dialogue process to restore peace if the government failed to act swiftly.

Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club, here, on Thursday, convenor of the 10 opposition parties, Kshetrimayum Shanta alleged that the government has not taken up any steps for holding dialogue and negotiation for resolving the current crisis.

Every conflict in the modern world had been resolved through dialogue and negotiation.

Unfortunately, in the context of Manipur, there is no such visible steps so far, which will only affect the public, he said.

Unless the government initiates peace process at the earliest, the opposition parties along with the public will take up the negotiation measures, Shanta added.

He informed that the 10 opposition parties submitted a memorandum on October 10 with appointment of an interlocutor to resolve the crisis through negotiation one of the demands mentioned in the memorandum.

Describing the killing of SDPO Anandkumar as shocking for the entire state, the convenor cautioned that unless the government takes up measures to resolve the crisis, many more police officers like him might become victim of the crisis.

He also accused PM Modi and home minister Amit Shah of playing double standard politics over the crisis.

He further demanded the government to take up stern measures for preventing underage children from taking up arms.

Joining the media briefing, Shiv Sena (UBT) Manipur vice-president Laithangbam Shyam said that prolonging the crisis is a clear testimony of a failed system in the administration.

He also criticised the system under which internet service has been banned protractedly and slammed the government for failing to recover the bodies of the two students who have been killed in the captivity of armed Kuki militants till date.
