Silent bike rally decries election during 'war'

Thoubal, April 05 2024: Volunteers of Langsai Thouna carried out a silent bike rally in Thoubal and Kakching districts demanding deferment of election in Manipur until the 'war' being waged by Kuki narco-terrorists against the Meetei community since May 3 last year is put to an end.

The silent bike rally, which kicked off from Thoubal Haokha around 10:30 am covered seven assembly constituencies in Thoubal and Kakching districts which fall under Outer Manipur (ST) PC and culminated at a Wangoo-Sugnu border village.

Speaking to reporters prior to flagging off event, Langsai Thouna convenor Kshetri Rajiv informed that the rally was conducted to advocate for resilience and unity among the Meeteis.

Voicing resentment over conduct of the 18th Lok Sabha election amid the people facing serious hardships, Rajiv expressed apprehension that the election could weaken the Meeteis in-spite of the fact that the community was united due to aggression by Kuki narco-terrorists in the state.

Therefore, Langsai Thouna is against holding of elections and consider it appropriate to defer the polls till solution is brought to the humanitarian crisis.

While opining that there could be a hidden agenda of the government of India pushing for the Lok Sabha election amid the crisis situation besieging Manipur, he further stated that despite multiple appeals to authority concerned not to conduct the election, the government IS deploying large number of central forces to thrust the election on the people.

Therefore, people of Manipur should remain alert and abstain from taking part in the election, he stressed.

Rajiv also said that people of seven assembly constituencies of Thoubal and Kakching districts, which falls under the Outer Manipur parliamentary Constituency, are not entitled to contest elections other than casting votes.

The rally also aims to highlight such irrational and discriminatory aspect of electoral politics to the authority concerned.
