Utilize Chakkouba money in war to save Manipur: SANULAL

Imphal, November 02 2023: Appealing to the people of Manipur to forego celebration of 'Ningol Chakkouba' which is one of the grandest festivals of Manipur taking into account of the prevailing unsettling situation in the state, SANULAL has proposed utilisation of the money earmarked for celebrating Ningol Chakkouba in the war to save Manipur.

Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Thursday, SANULAL advisor Ibethoi said that celebration of "Ningol Chakkouba" has been cancelled this year for SANULAL.

All the women of Manipur also need to sacrifice celebration of the festival for this year considering the present crisis in the state.

She urged all not to celebrate "Ningol Chakkouba" even on 'other' days for this year.

Instead of celebrating "Ningol Chakkouba" by incurring huge amount of money, we should utilise the money in the war for saving Manipur, she suggested, while requesting to the women of Manipur to extend all possible help to the displaced people living in the relief camps.

One Aheibam Sophia of Chingamakha Maisnam Leikai, who got married on May 3 last, said that this coming "Ningol Chakkouba" will be her first time.

Though she desires to celebrate Ningol Chakkouba, she has decided to forego the festival this year considering the hardships being faced by the crisis-affected people and as mark of respect to those who have sacrificed their lives for saving the motherland.
