Seminar on protection of tribal land, forest rights held

A one day tribe level seminar on the topic 'Protection of Tribal Land and Forest Rights and the Village Authority Act, 1956" was held at Ng Mono Monsang Memorial Hall, Japhou, Chandel district on Saturday.
The seminar organised by Sirti Upa Ruh (SUR/Monsang Tribe Union) had IRS (retired) officer K Timothy Zimik as resource person.
Also attended by People's Democratic Alliance (PDA), Ukhrul district president L Seth, social worker Mathewkuan Pan-mei from Tamenglong district, former ANSAM president Lui-kang Bruce, John Zimik, and K Phungni Zimik, SUR president Ng Benithan, in his key note address, urged the gathering to understand tribal land rights and issues concerning tribal.
K Timothy Zimik deliberated on the Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reform Acts of I960' and emphasised on the protection and codification of tribal land and forest rights as an important step to safeguard ancestral lands.
Leaders of Monsang village authority, Sirti Sanuw Ruh (SSR), Sirti Thiimjiitam Sourkhe (STS), Monsang churches leaders and Christian mission workers, village women society, club leaders, public leaders, intellectuals, public and well-wishers attended the seminar.
The programme, moderated by SUR secretary (assembly affairs) Ng Longly, and recorded by Sirti Thiimjiitam Sourkhe (STS/Monsang Naga Students' Union) president K Gedion, started with a prayer by Ng Johnson, local catechist of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Monsang Pantha.
The event also had a discussion session and special prayer for Sirti Ramchii meaning Monsang ancestral lands led by reverend Ts Morison, pastor of Liwa Changn-ing Baptist Church.
Sh Akip Monsang presented a beautiful number during the seminar programme.
