Tangkhul artistes donate vegetables, essential items

Members of Ukhrul-based Tangkhul Naga Film Association donated vegetables and daily essential items to inmates of relief camps opened in Imphal.
A team of the association visited relief camps opened at Shyamasakhi High School in Moirangkhom, Manipur College in Pishum Chingamathak and Ideal Girls' College in Akampat on Saturday and handed over the relief items to inmates and functionaries of the relief camps, where people displaced by the ongoing violence since May 3 are taking shelter.
According to association president Robin, Tangkhul Naga Film Association has not much to donate for displaced people but came to present something the association could afford like vegetables and daily essential items to inmates of relief camps.
The meagre donation was made primarily to showcase and strengthen blood relation between the hills and valley people, he said and thanked artistes of the valley for assisting and helping delegates of the association.
Robin further said that the Meeteis live.in the valley and Tangkhuls in the hills but both the communities have-been maintaining cordial relations since time immemorial and eating together often.
However, the present conflict prevents the two communities to meet and eat together.
In view of the prevailing situation, members of the association came out voluntarily to present something for the valley people affected by the conflict and accordingly brought vegetables available in the hills, he said and clarified that no donation from anyone was collected for the items distributed to inmates of relief camps.
