Imphal, September 23 2023:
While alleging that Assam Rifles tried to assault an ambulance driver, Kripa-dashini Advanced Hospital & Research Institute has urged authorities concerned to look into the matter so that such incidents do not recur.
In a release, Institute's administrative officer Shantikumar Sharma recalled that as condition of one of their patients in the CU became critical, an ambulance picked up a doctor from Kakwa Boroi Makhong around 1 am Saturday.
While returning to drop the doctor at his residence, AR personnel deployed near Boroi Makhong stopped the Vehicle for checking before the ambulance driver was dragged down by the same AR team as he passed the said area enroute to the hospital after dropping the doctor.
Fortunately, the driver was saved by people present nearby, the release detailed.
While reminding all concerned that ambulance is meant for saving the lives of people and they are not attacked even during war, the administrative officer posed what will be the fate of the people if security personnel do not spare even ambulance driver.
After this incident, the ambulance drivers are scared of transporting patients and doctors at night time.
It is very unfortunate and uncivilised of the AR to indulge in such acts against the health care service providers, Shantikumar lamented, while urging the government to look into the matter seriously.
