Excise Dept destroys seized IMFL, DIC liquor

The Excise Department on Saturday destroyed IMFL and DIC liquors seized by the department, at its campus in Lamphelpat.
In accordance with the instruction of commissioner (excise), excise superintendent Th Brucelee Khuman led the staff in destroying a total of 17,799 litres of liquor, which included 2430 litres of IMFL (rum) ,6950 litres of beer and 8419 litres of DIC (country liquor) .
The destroyed liquor is estimated to be worth around Rs 43,84,900.In this regard, superintendent Brucelee said that the destroyed liquor included those seized from July 10 last year till July 30 this year.
They were seized from areas covered by 20 stations of the Excise Department, with the assistance of Manipur Police.
He informed that the Excise Department has around 39 stations and as such, require manpower of around 700.However, the total manpower at present is only 100, which is causing shortage of staff in the stations.
Fortunately, the Manipur police has stepped in to somewhat make up for the manpower shortage, he said, while appealing to the people to extend their co-operation to the activities of the Department.
