Moirang, September 23 2023:
Kuki militants once again targeted farmers by firing three/four rounds from atop Leingang Atingba toward Naranseina, Bishnupur district at around 5.30 this morning.
In the course of the military offensive launched by Kuki militants and their supporters in pursuit of a separate and Kuki exclusive separate administration, Naranseina witnessed pitched gun battles for seven consecutive days starting from August 29 .
After cessation of firing for some days, the Kuki militants once again targeted farmers at the same place this morning.
The renewed attack came in the midst of Chief Minister N Biren's claim that gunfights have ceased and the State is slowly returning to normalcy.
In its efforts to check the aggression and the resultant gun violence, the State Government has deployed BSF and CRPF troops in addition to MR and IRB personnel in vulnerable areas.
Notwithstanding all these efforts, some farmers who went to tend to their paddy fields near Naranseina high canal were fired upon by Kuki militants today.
The farmers went to their paddy fields following reports that Kuki militants occupying Leingang Ching and adjoining foothills have been driven away by Central security forces and that paddy fields located under the high canal are safe.
The Central forces deployed in the area did not fire back but remained mute spectators when Kuki militants opened fire from Leingang Ching.
Sounds of gunshots were also heard at around 7 pm today in a Kuki village, some distance away from an IRB camp of Naranseina.
Further, sounds of two bomb blasts suspected to have come from the Kuki village of Moulngat were heard by villagers of Trong-laobi at about 5.30 pm .
