Bishnupur, September 23 2023:
'The Central and State Government should be held responsible for the mayhem in the State as it failed to intervene and take up timely measures to control the communal crisis' .
Former Minister and National Council Member of Janata Dal (United), Dr Nimaichand Luwang made the above statement today while extending aid to inmates of Phubala relief camp.
Janata Dal United Manipur and 1984 Batch IAS Officers extended essential and edible items to the displaced people from Churachandpur who are currently taking refuge in the relief camp opened at Phubala in Moirang Assembly Constituency.
Dr Nimaichand Luwang expressed discontentment that Manipur is in a regressive state now due to the tragic communal conflict which first erupted on the evening of May 3 last.
If the Government and authorities concerned have taken up timely and strict measures, the crisis could have been controlled, he said.
In connection with today's distribution drive, he said that Janata Dal United Manipur and 1984 Batch IAS Officers are extending relief materials to the inmates of the camp to help in providing some relief and in alleviating their pain and suffering.
Stating that Manipur is in a turmoil now, he maintained that restoration of peace and normalcy is a far cry as no appropriate remedial measures are being taken up to address the situation in the State.
The crisis in the State can only be resolved when the Central and State leaders work collectively to address the grievances of the people and pave the way for bringing back peace and sanity.
He also appealed to the MLAs and Ministers lobbying in Delhi to take up all possible efforts to bring an amicable solution.
President JDU Manipur and former Chief Secretary O Nabakishore; Vice-President JDU Manipur and former Minister Khuraijam Loken; Secretary General M Dorendro; General Secretary Ch Nabachandra Singh and workers of JDU Manipur were present at the occasion.
