Imphal, September 23 2023:
After nearly five months, the state government has lifted ban on mobile internet service with effect from Saturday.
Commissioner (home) T Ranjit issued an official order in this regard on Saturday which was preceded by the announcement made by chief minister N Biren that the ban would be lifted.
As announced by chief minister N Biren, mobile internet service also resumed in Churachandpur district from 3pm on Saturday.
Soon after resumption of the mobile internet service, Churachandpur town witnessed a different scene as majority of people were seen surfing internet through their mobile phones.
Being epicentre of the ongoing conflict between the Meetei and Kuki-Zo communities, Churachandpur remained tense since May 3 but restoration of mobile internet service has heralded a new beginning for people of the district.
Mention may be made here that the state government banned mobile internet service from May 3 onwards after the violent clash between two communities erupted in Churachandpur district, aKuki majority district, which further spread to other Kuki dominated districts like Tengnoupal and Kangpokpi, before it spread like wildfire in Imphal valley areas.
Consequently, broadband services were also banned from the following day and was partially lifted in late July.
