Imphal, October 13 2023:
Apart from declaring October 15, the day India annexed Manipur in 1949, as 'Black Day' for the people of Manipur, the armed Alliance for Socialist Unity Kangleipak (ASUK) has imposed total shutdown on the day.
The total shutdown to be effective from 6am to 6pm on Ocrober 15, however will not cover emergency and essential services like medical, electricity and water supply and religious ceremonies, ASUK informed in a statement.
According to the ASUK, Manipur remained as sovereign nation for a long time before becoming part of British Empire in 1891.After the British left in 1947, Manipur regained its sovereign status after 57 years.
After more than two years of independence, India forcibly merged Manipur in 1949 and since then the people of Manipur have been living as slaves for 74 years.
October 15, 1949, the day India annexed Manipur can be rightly called the 'Black Day' as Manipur has been regress -ing since then, ASUK said.
According to the statement, prolonged suppressive and oppressive policies of India has severely distorted Manipuri society, which is not only spineless now but also reached the stage of extinction.
One main reason for this has been colonialism and India has completed colonisation of body, mind, thought and philosophy of the people of the land, ASUK said.
For the past 74 years, India has been using all its might to colonize body of the people of Manipur and India managed to do so.
The biggest weapon for colonising body is complete extinction of strength and courage to acquire knowledge among the colonised people (epiS-temic injustice), ASUK said, adding that there is clear sign of epistemic injustice on both sides in the ongoing conflict between the Meetei and Kuki communities.
It seems that Kuki leaders are unable to understand that colonialism suppressed both the Meetei and Kuki even to the extent of complete extinction and the two communities are inseperable, ASUK said, while adding that playing savage politics of the 19th century in the 21st century is a result of epistemic injustice.
