Bodies condemn threat to Meetei driver

Condemning the act of some Kuki people stopping a vehicle and threatening the driver belonging to Meetei community at Tatbung village of Tamenglong district along NH 37 on Thursday, LEECHING, Jirbam has asked miscreants involved in the incident to clarify on the matter by October 15 failing which entry of Kukis into Jiribam would be prohibited.
Addressing a press meet at Babupara, here on Friday , LEECHING secretary L Ranjan Meitei said that some Kuki youths brandishing sticks intercepted a vehicle driven by a Meetei driver working for Apex Company located at Leingangpokpi, Jiribam and searched the vehicle while threatening him.
He mentioned that such incidents had occurred earlier also but were resolved after agreement in joint meetings of Peace Committee, AR CO, Jiribam SP and deputy commissioner, Jiri Development Organisation (JDO), Kuki Inpi Jiribam & Tamenglong secretary and 11 mile (Egharomile) village chief.
Ranjan continued that contrary to the agreements similar incident occurred on Thursday.
Unless the perpetrators apologise for their misconduct by October 15 no Kuki will be allowed to enter Jiribam from October 16, he cautioned.
The press conference was also attended by LEECHING assistant secretary Ningthoujam Darmendra Meetei, information & publicity secretary Ibomcha, team leader N Sadananda and south zone commander Senjam Sainik Meetei.
On the other hand, Jiribam branches of MSF, DESAM, KSA and another students' body condemned frequent incidents of threatening Meetei drivers employed by Apex company along NH 37 and obstructing the free movement of Meeteis on the said national highway by Kukis.
In a joint release, the student bodies demanded authority concerned to arrest the culprits involved in Thursday's incident and punish them as per law of the land.
The joint release also condemned such repetitive incidents' despite agreement reached in a recent meeting not to hinder movement of Meeteis by Kuki community.
If case authorities concerned do not take any action regarding the incident, then they will support the unanimous decision taken by denizens of Jiribam over the issue, the joint release affirmed.
