Students in uniform will get 50% fare cut while traveling, a statement of the Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) signed by its Information and Publicity Secretary, Manipur Student's Federation Y Folendro said today adding that a decision has been taken in this regard in a joint meeting with transporters.
The cut in the fare will be effective from tomorrow.
However the facility will be applicable between 10 to 11 am and 2.30 to 3.30 pm only the statement added.
Educational institutes like University, LMS Law College, JN Dance Academy, etc where there is no enforcement of uniform can avail the 50% cut in fare by producing identity cards issued by the competent authority of the institution, they study as per the statement.
The cut in the fare of the student was agreed in a joint meeting with 16 transport associations and societies with the MSF held today considering the woes facing by the students and common people facing untold hardships due to price rise in the state.
In the statement, Folendro said that the step has been necessitate as common people are worst affected by the price rice and many families are unable to afford families' daily consumption and children's education.
The joint meeting was attended by representatives of the Imphal-Noney Road Motor Transport Co-operative Society, Light Vehicle Transport of Passenger Welfare Union, Salai Transport Co-operative Society, UK Road Motor Transport Co-operative Society, Lainingthou Transport, Passenger Taxi Transport societies' Association, (JAC) Uripok Kangchup Road Auto Rickshow Owner and Driver C Operative Society, Pureiromba Transport C-operative Society, Wangjing Tata Magic Union, T R E S Co, Route No 2 City Bus Nambol, Sagolband Auto Association, N C Jeep Auto, New Keithelmanbi Transport Association, Imphal-Lamlai Taxi Transport Co-operative Society and Heirok Tata Magic Association.
MSF also appealed to other transports' associations who were not participated in today's meeting to abide by the decision arrived in the meeting and collect 50% reduction in fare for students.
MSF further asked students to report any driver who defy the agreement to the federation or the transport's association.
In the meantime, MSF also appealed the government to check fuel selling in black market at high price and arrange for providing un-interrupted fuel to vehicles.
