Vijay Diwas was celebrated in the state in a solemn and befitting manner today to commemorate 11 years of victory of the Indian Armed Forces in Kargil over Pakistan.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi led the people in paying their tribute to the martyrs of the Kargil War by laying a wreath at the function held at Bir Tikendrajit Park
in Imphal.
Ministers, MLAs, top officials of civil service, police and security forces took part in paying homage.
While speaking in the observance ceremony in remembrance of the war heroes who laid down their lives during the Kargil War that took place in the year 1999, the chief minister call upon all the citizen to take a firm decision on this very day to safeguard the state and the country.

Recalling the incident chief minister, O Ibobi said that many brave soldier of the nation during the war against the Pakistan laid their lives in order to safeguard the territory of the country.
Among the martyr soldiers, Lance Naik five Niak Subedar and two Sepoy was from the state of Manipur.
The seven soldiers from the state laid down their lives in the fight with the enemies were lance naik Kaleshwor from Imphal east district, sepoys Nicolas Moyon, Beningbir Moyan and Birneithang from chandel district, sepoy Jamkholan Vaiphei from Churachandpur district and sepoy Kapani Asuli and S Daikho Mao from Senapati district, he said.
The chief minister further said that "the true tribute to these martyred sons of the country will be to strengthen the unity of the country with our best effort and fight together with those forces trying to disintegrate it" .
State health and family welfare minister, Ph Parijat who graced the function as president, observed the increasing skills, intelligence and sincerely in discharging duty among the personnel of the state police department and said he feel satisfied with it.
The observance of the Kargil Diwas will boost up morals of the Army and Security Forces of the country, he said.
Among others, the observance function was attended by state Minister, N Biren, MLA Kh Loken, state chief secretary DS Poonia, DGP Y Joykumar and other top officials of the state as well as retired army and police officers of the state and paid floral tributes at the portraits of the Kargil martyrs.
